Well...just checking in...how are you doing on getting your body moving?
We all know that exercise is an important part of maintaining a healthy body. Learn to love exercise and how alive it makes you feel. Get your blood pumping with an activity that you enjoy and you will see benefits in your stamina as well as your waist size.
Some of the advice is well known:
- Decide that you are going to make exercise a consistent part of your life.
- Learn to enjoy exercise as part of maintaining a healthy existence and weight. Feel how good your body feels after a workout!
- Find something that you truly enjoy...and find a buddy to do it with.
- Join a gym - especially with a friend.
- Buy an exercise bike or treadmill and locate it in the family room.
- Walking is a great way to reintroduce yourself to physical activity. It is cheap, can be done anywhere, and by anyone.
- Park further from your destination and walk.
- Take a walk at lunch, instead of sitting in the cafeteria or at your desk.
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Walk to the desk of a coworker instead of using the phone or email.
- With the spring weather right around the corner, a walk after your evening meal is refreshing. It may also provide an opportunity to reconnect with a friend or family member.
- Buy a pedometer. These devices are inexpensive and help to keep track of the paces you have taken. Use the first typical day as your starting point. Each day after that, add on 50 more steps. Pretty soon, you will be walking an extra mile per week!
- Learn to think "how can I keep moving?" Each extra step or movement adds to your calories burned and overall health.
